Corporate Summary (site quote):

Chemokine Therapeutics is a publicly-held biotechnology company with emphasis on peptide therapeutics. The Company discovers, develops, and manufactures innovative Chemokine-based therapeutic products for the treatment of life threatening diseases, in particular cancer, and blood disorders.

Chemokine Therapeutics, science is based on chemokine and their involvement in human diseases, as well as the therapeutic application of this science.

Chemokines are a large family of structurally related chemoattractant cytokines (soluble proteins with major growth stimulating activity). Chemokines are divided into three classes based on their N-terminal amino acids sequence and include CC, CXC, CX3C and C chemokines. Chemokines main task is to regulate the production and function of different blood cells and cancers. CC chemokines target multiple leukocyte subsets including mononcytes, basophils, eosinophils and dendritic cells. CXC chemokines mainly target neutrophils, T & B lymphocytes and cancer cells. CX3C and C chemokine target lymphoid subsets, including T and NK cells. Cytokines which are also known as interleukins, as wells as a large group of growth factors, including interferons have critical roles in many autoimmune and inflammatory diseases as well as cancer.

The chart on their website demonstrates the development pathways of human blood and stem cells. In each developmental pathway one or several chemokines participate to achieve the correct end point. Abnormalities in each developmental pathway is controlled by chemokines, in which their use could remedy the the problem.

Currently about 50 chemokines are characterized that work through approximately 20 different receptors. Most chemokines map to human chromosome 4 and17, however few map to chromosome 9p13 and 10.

Chemokine genes are expressed through out the hematopoietic cells from stem cells to all type of mature blood cell components. Furthermore a large proportion of hematological cell population possess chemokine receptors, and upon activation of the receptors by appropriate chemokines, these cells go through a variety of changes ranging from growth, differentiation to activation and release of functionally active cytokines.
