Gene Keeps Stem Cells Available To Differentiate
U.S. scientists at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, say they've found a gene, called Six2, that plays a critical role in the development of human kidneys, by keeping a population of stem cells constantly available to produce the differentiated cells that give rise to specialized parts of the organ.

Stem-Cell Transplants to Treat Batten Disease
Oregon Health & Science University's (OHSU) Doernbecher Children's Hospital is getting ready to start a phase I trial to test the safety of stem cell transplants to treat Batten disease, and not necessarily whether it works.
In this trial, six children with symptoms of the disease will be given transplants of stem cells at two different doses and followed for a year.
