Should Be No Suprise .. Testicles As a Source of Stem Cells

Related News: Stem Cell Research

I guess its not suprising news when one things about it really. German stem cell researchers are now reporting they have isolated a unique type of cell within adult mouse testicles. These new cells have many of the same properties of embryonic stem cells.

I just can't help myself .. but did I hear the sperm banks around the world start devising new marketing strategies focusing on stem cells?

Now, the catch .. the researchers have yet to find these cells actually in humans yet. However, if these are cells found, they could provide an alternative source of embryonic stem cells. Naturally this would further quiet ethical controversy surrounding embryonic stem cells.

The study, which will be published in Nature, Gerd Hasenfuss of Georg-August-University of Goettingen and colleagues isolated sperm-producing stem cells from adult mouse testicles.

To make it even more interesting the cells grew into colonies very similar to embryonic stem cells.

Testicles could be stem-cell source
