Multiple Sclerosis Sufferer Sees Results From Stem Cell Therapy

A new stem cell procedure designed to treat Multiple Sclerosis has been tested in Canada with some significant results for at least one person so far.

Doctors harvested stem cells from Jennifer Molson of Ottawa. Following that, Molson was given high doses of chemotherapy was then used to to wipe out her immune system. After a period of recovery, the doctors then reinjected Molson's her own stem cells back into her.

Thusfar, none of the other 11 study participants have gotten worse, but Molson has shown the most significant improvement so far.

Currently, doctors can't explain the different results between study's the patients but the experiment may still provide some additional insight into MS

"The idea that you might be able to stop the disease by a process like this one is extremely hopeful," said Dr. Jock Murray, past director of the MS clinic at Dalhousie University in Halifax
