Related News: Stem Cell NewsHaving spent a LOT of time out of town over the holidays (and leading up to them) we hope to get our collective butts in gear so to speak and get back into the news.
With the end of 2005 focusing on mainly the downfall of the researcher Hwang Woo-Suk, this has not dampened the advances being made in stem cell research overall.
Research analysts claim that Hwang's conduct may put a temporary break on research in the field, but warned that this episode should not be allowed to lead to the wholesale dismissal of stem cell research.
Apart from the efforts to develop patient-tailored stem cells from cloned human embryos .. the reserch focus in which Hwang was involved, there are other kinds of valid studies underway, said Professor Kim Dong-Wook of Yonsei University in Seoul.
"The study on raising stem cells from cloned human embryos is just a part of stem cell-research. In South Korea alone, there are tens of teams who have been producing good results in stem cell-research," the stem cell-expert said.
