The widely spoken of Korean scientist Hwang Woo-suk, recently criticized the Bush Administration's policy of not supporting stem cell research. Dr. Hwang stated that the policy impedes U.S. potential to make medical breakthroughs.

Dr. Hwang, who is the head of a South Korean research team who cloned the first human embryo for research purposes, stated in an interview with Reuters that stem cell science should not be halted by political interests. He went on to say that finding solutions to incurable diseases is very honorable and is a common responsibility of humanity.

Earlier this month, Dr. Hwang's team surprised the many with their latest advance in stem cell research in which they cloned human embryos and then on to derive human embryonic stem cells that then perfectly matched the individual patients. Naturally this is a big step forward in the quest for human replacement tissues.
