Geron Corp Sets Up Company to License Its Animal Cloning Technology

Geron holds a portfolio of patents specifically for animal reproductive technologies. It has teamed up with Phoenix-based Exeter Life Sciences Inc. to form the new company named Start Licensing Inc. ....
This latest deal provides a $4 million up-front payment to Geron. It also provides for undisclosed payments which allows the company to maximize the technology developed at the Roslin Institute that Geron acquired in 1999.
The deal represents an effort by Geron to capitalize on its intellectual properties, and not distract its staff and resources from the company's primary focus. That being oncology and the development of stem cell-based therapies.
The establishment of Start follows the announcement last month that Geron and Hong Kong-based Biotechnology Research Corp. formed a new company to develop and commercialize telomerase activator drugs that restore the regenerative and functional capacity of cells in various organ systems and might have applications in AIDS, wound healing and other chronic degenerative diseases.
