Cord blood banks in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Network collect, process and store donated umbilical cord blood for transplants. Umbilical cord blood is playing an important role in the treatment of leukemia and other life-threatening blood diseases. The NMDP establishes relationships with cord blood banks throughout the United States as well as international cord blood banks. The cord blood units these banks collect are listed on the NMDP Registry, where they are automatically included in every patient's search of the Registry for an unrelated donor or cord blood unit.
