Ok, we have covered in a nutshell, What Stem Cells Are. Now lets deal with the controversial one.

What Are Embryonic Stem Cells?

Embryonic stem cells are cells that are derived from embryos. To be more precise, embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that developed from eggs that have been fertilized in fertilization clinics which were then donated for research purposes (with consent of the donors).

The embryos from which human embryonic stem cells are derived are usually four or five days old and not much more than a hollow microscopic ball of cells .. this is called the blastocyst.

The blastocyst contains three associated cell structures.

The trophoblast is the layer of cells that surrounds the blastocyst.

The blastocoel is the hollow cavity within the blastocyst.

The Inner Cell Mass is the a group of approximately 30 cells at one end of the blastocoel.

Now, we are not here to discuss ethics or morality, but essentially here to explain what we discuss here biologically and what the news is regarding stem cell research.

We will leave it to others to cover that subject matter and there certainly is no shortage of it.
